On Friday morning (Dec. 26, 2014) I stopped in at the Lake Tapps Texaco station for a fill up. Normally I don’t stop there because their prices usually range anywhere from 25-50 cents more per gallon than other area gas stations, I suppose they can jack the price up because there are no other stations within 2-3 miles. For convenience, I decided to go ahead and fill up there. Pulled up to the pump and it couldn’t read my credit card, and said “Pay inside.” This is also USUALLY what happens to me on the rare occasions when I gas up at this station, even though they installed newer card readers in the past couple of years. Whatever. So I go inside and hand the male clerk (the owner I think?) $20 for pump number 1. A female clerk was also behind the counter and they barely stopped chatting with each other to take my money. Whatever. I go out and start trying to gas up, and gas starts pouring out of the sealed area and down the side of my car. I immediately stop, try again, same result. I go into the Texaco station, upset because there is now a good pint or so of gas streamed down the side of my car and onto my tires and the ground. I ask the male clerk to come and help me and tell him what’s happening. He looks at me as though I am speaking a martian language and doesn’t move. I ask for help again, he just stands there staring at me. At this point, another customer walks into the store and says he’ll go try to help me. We go back to the car, he re-inserts the nozzle, same result. He stops, tries again, same result. There is now a significant amount of gas that has run down the side of my car and onto the ground. I go back into the Texaco and said I wanted a refund. The clerk at first refuses and says, “No one else has problems pumping the gas.” I think to myself, “Oh, so you DO speak English.” I say, “Just give me my money back, I’m going somewhere else.” He proceeds to refund me $15.35 cents, now CHARGING me for the gas that his malfunctioning machine depositing onto the side of my car and – ultimately – onto the ground. It may not matter to this guy that neither me nor anyone in my family will ever EVER stop at this station again (personally I would rather run out of gas and have to walk to a different station). We won’t buy so much as a pack of gum or lottery ticket, either. Lakeland Hills and Lake Tapps residents DESERVE a gas station that doesn’t cheat its customers by overcharging – let alone inexplicably REFUSE TO HELP a woman or man in this situation. Asinine!
