When coming home alone at 2 AM due to driving my fiance to the ER, there were no 'regular' parking spaces available. There were, however (as there always are) 6+ parking spaces under a covered roof. I parked here because I was alone in the middle of the night and I am a girl. I felt unsafe parking in a parking lot by a completely separate business and walking to my apartment alone. They emailed me, saying "do not let this happen again as you risk being towed". I replied with "I came home around 2 in the morning. There were about 6 car port spots open. I had taken my fiancé to the ER due to being punched in the head at work at the hospital. I was coming home alone. There were no regular spots left. People who are allowed to park under the car port were parked in regular spots. There is NO reason that I shouldn’t be able to take a car port spot considering there were 3 cars with blue stickers in the regular parking, taking a spot I could have had. For those three cars with blue stickers in regular spots, three cars with red stickers should be allowed to park safely under the carport, instead of leaving those spots open and dangerously walking from god knows where. All because of a roof. I am not going to walk from a far distance to my apartment alone at night as a woman. I left my ER badge in my car as well as a note explaining. This is ridiculous and I am upset about having to be in this situation. We only have 2 cars. I deserve a parking spot by my apartment, especially when we had just gone through a trauma like this, with him being at the ER. I am more than disappointed with how this was handled.". After this, I came into the office to speak with the manager. I suggested that since they sold more apartments than they could handle as far as parking and people's cars go, they should take part of the 1,900 that I and others pay for rent to hire a security officer to walk people who are alone from their car to their apartment since it does not feel safe. The woman kept interrupting me, so I began to record the conversation for my records. She told me she would call the police if I recorded her. Obviously, I stopped. Clearly she is doing something wrong if she feels threatened with a recording of what she was saying. She continually told me that WE DO NOT GUARANTEE SAFETY in the lease. A very simple solution is here: to hire a security guard for those who have to park a far length away due to lack of planning on the businesses part. She kept telling me to buy an undercover spot in this case. Safety shouldn't be sold- I shouldn't have to park far away and risk my safety walking alone at night just because they wanted to sell undercover parking spaces instead of allowing residents to park close to their apartments when parking WAS AVAILABLE. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as other resources to help rectify the situation. She said that this was a "threat". I told her that if she is doing her job, then being held accountable for her actions shouldn't feel threatening. Don't live here, as they don't care about customer safety. They just want to sell covered parking spaces.
