Sun Break Cafe

The food portions are large and overpriced. There was even a nice side of racism to accompany my food. Is this establishment racist? No but was my waitress most likely racist? Yes. We were seated by a lovely young man in a center table on the left side of the restaurant. Our waitress came around a few minutes later and dropped off two menus. About ten minutes later another family was seated next to us. The waitress took about 15 minutes to come back to our table and take our order. In retrospect, I should have gotten up and left right then and there but I wanted to like this local establishment. She took our order, served us some coffee and left. She then took the order of the women next to us. At this time the waitress forgot to tell us “I want to play a game”. Determine weather she was being racist or if she was just bad at customer servicing. We waited about 30-35 minutes for our food to come out. When the table next to us got their food before we did, I brushed it off thinking “Well, maybe their food takes less time to make”. The waitress then passed by our table and exclaimed “Looks like you guys are outta coffee” with a coffee pot in her hand. She then served coffee to the wall of customers, the ladies next to us and then started having the most riveting conversation with the family in the corner. Needless to say, we did not get a second cup of coffee. By the time we got our food my mother’s food was nice and cold while mine was lukewarm. Have you ever had lukewarm sausage gravy? Your answer should be no because that is disgusting. We tried to get the waitress back to us but it was impossible as she continued to customer service the table in the corner. She then started once again to cycle through the people in our section but seemed to just always miss our table. We picked up our plates and did everything short of grab the waitress to indicate that we were done and to please free us from this hellscape and give us our check but damn it that corner table was on the brick of drifting off into the abyss if her attention strayed for more than one second. Finally, my mother went straight to the cashier and gave him our order so that he could cash us out. He informed us that in order to cash out he would our receipt from the waitress, so we informed him that our waitress was busy and we could not get the receipt. When the young man went and told our waitress to please give us our receipt. She turned around and glared at us as before walking over to lightly toss our receipt on the table. She then rushed back over to the corner table. You can’t eat experience but damn if mine didn’t leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.

This place is an institution in Auburn! Best breakfast in the whole valley! I've had some of the most amazing memories here. I wouldn't trade those for the world. My brothers took me here the day before my wedding and I had such a great time here. Their service is always top notch. Their food is always the best. Go here, you will not regret it.
