I had such a great experience with Dr. Petty that I feel I had to write a review. Anytime I've had medical issues in the past, i swear it's been mediocre at best, but not this time around. This is regarding an LIS surgery (lateral internal Sphincterotomy)
First off, I was in severe pain. This was the first time I'd ever reached a legit 10 on that 1-10 pain scale. So much pain I was hyperventilating, delirious, screaming, just bad. I first went to urgent care, which was horrifying. The dr said I had an anal fissure. She said there was anything she could do for me, but I could do a sitz bath. I asked if I could have some pain meds and her response was "you shouldn't be in this much pain". She made me feel like I was just seeking pain pills or something, I was so pissed. I wasn't able to see my PCP, so got a referral to Dr. Petty.
He said I had a fissure, but also that my rectal muscles were constantly constricting and spasming, causing severe pain (he likened it to when a pregnant womans uterine muscles contract during birth, I now have a new found respect for pregnancy). He had no problem believing me, and giving me pain meds which I DESPERATELY needed. I understand there's an opioid epidemic, but man, I hope it doesn't mean not giving it to people who need it.
Anyways, he first tried an ointment with lidocaine and diltiazem, which worked until i stopped using it. Then the fissure and pain came back. At that point it was time for surgery.
I ended up having surgery at the puyallup multicare hospital. I have to say, all the nurses, front office, anesthesiologist, etc. were great. Everyone was nice, answered my questions, checked up on me, never had me waiting an obscene amount of time. Just top notch.
I'm now a month after surgery, and feeling great. no more pain, and everything is running properly again. So grateful that Dr. Petty helped me with such a painful issue.
