After reading a ton of reviews online, we decided to tour with Maya’s Legacy while on the island during the week of 3/18. Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, this company has it figured out. Your experience is their priority and there is no doubt about it.
We had the opportunity to head out on 3/19/18 with Capt Jeff and April. The conditions were perfect, the weather was great, and the water was basically glass. In addition to seeing a lot of wild life and learning about the islands, we were fortunate to see the T2C pod off of Stuart Island. We were able to witness this pos during their hunt, and family interaction. It was pretty incredible to see the bond and family structure that exist within the pod. You know it’s a good day on the water when your captain and co pilot are just as excited as you are to see what you’re witnessing.
The boat was incredible, not once did anyone feel sick in this stable boat. It was a 12 person boat, and not overcrowded like some of the bigger commercial companies that you see in the water, or some of the really small boats we saw come in from Canada.
In short, we came on this trip for one reason, to see whales! Captain Jeff & April were able to make this an exceptional experience, even in the off-season. We’ll definitely be coming back again.
