Don't bother going to the state vehicle licensing office, go here! I went at noon on a Saturday to get my car registered in Washington for the first time. I was probably 20th in line or so but the line moved fast and I was done in less than an hour. The employees were knowledgeable and friendly. The whole process was about as good as it could be. The only piece of advice I wish I knew before going was that you have to pay by check to avoid a credit card fee.
